1 Month Old Baby
1 Month Old Baby
You have just welcomed your baby into the world. After being in the company of its parents for a month, your baby is starting to make its first adorable sounds, staring wide-eyed at the world around him. There are a few things you must be aware of concerning your sweet 1-month old baby. Imagine the shock of being forced into our noisy and busy world from his mother’s safe and quiet womb. Upon entering our world, he dealt with the terrifying surroundings the way he knew best, by curling into the same fetal position he was in while he was secure in his mommy’s belly.
Is your baby better prepared for the world now that he is 1 month old? Well, he has been in our midst for a total of 30 days, breathing in clean air and getting accustomed to the sounds, sights and smells that are a part of life. Although he may feel small and vulnerable, he knows all too well that he is a very significant part of it, as he is the center of your world. As he realises this, you will notice a variety of facial and verbal expressions, which often mimic your own expressions.
Observing is the main activity of your 1 month old baby. He begins to recognise his parents and other family members who are his main caretakers and are constantly cooing over him. This recognition becomes obvious through a variety of facial expressions, including smiles and frowns. It is a good idea to place your expressionless face up close to the baby’s, to see and listen to his reaction. This also allows the baby to get accustomed to your facial characteristics, as 1 month old babies cannot see things that are at a distance.
Your 1 month old baby will also be discovering his arms and legs. While he was in the womb, he wasn’t aware of these fascinating appendages, which can move around and grab things. As he becomes accustomed to the world, he understands that he has arms and legs, and that they help him explore his surroundings. You can help your 1 month old baby to get acquainted with his appendages by letting him grasp your fingers and touch you while you feed him.
The most important thing for your 1 month old baby is tender loving care. Nursing is a wonderful way for baby and mother to connect, and has an extremely soothing affect on the baby. For this reason, you will notice that your baby will try to suck on anything that he can put into his mouth. Keep in mind that if you are nursing, you will have to adopt a 2 to 3 hour feeding schedule, while if he is taking formula it will increase to about 3 to 4 hours.
Most experts agree that breastfeeding is best, both nutritionally and in many other aspects. Even if you plan not to breastfeed in general, it is recommended that you do so during the first month.
