Allergy treatment

Ahhhh, spring! Finally, after months and months of staying indoors hiding from the cold, we can enjoy a bit of warm weather, listen to the birds sing and stroll in the sun. For most, spring is a pleasant time, except for those poor souls who suffer from allergies.

For them, spring is a terrible time, with non-stop coughing, sneezing and wheezing, when going outdoors is a curse rather than a blessing! If, on the other hand, you have the appropriate allergy treatment, you can enjoy spring as much as the next person.

Your doctor can determine which allergy treatment is the most appropriate for you, depending on the type of allergy you have. Most allergy treatments should be taken well in advance, so that when spring comes along, you will be able to defend yourself against your allergic reactions.

An antihistamine is what your doctor is most likely to prescribe as an allergy treatment. In the past, the antihistamine Claritin was obtained only by prescription, but it has recently become an over-the-counter drug, available to all allergy sufferers. Claritin may be an effective allergy treatment in many cases, but in others it doesn’t suffice.

Swelling and a runny nose can be combated with a wide array of nasal allergy treatments. Although they may help naval congestion and discomfort, some of them may cause unwanted side effects.

If your allergic reactions are more severe, you should think about undergoing a specialized, comprehensive allergy treatment. This also includes dealing with extracting anything that may be causing or exacerbating your allergic reactions. Step one is to have your house cleaned thoroughly.

It is essential that any mould, dust, dirt and fungus must be removed, so check the bathroom, the kitchen and the living areas from top to bottom. Be proactive in your allergy treatment, by getting rid of allergens that can be inhaled in your own home. Unfortunately, this means sweeping, vacuuming, washing and dusting every day.

We also recommend getting a HEPA air filter that will remove pollen, dust, bacteria, and mould from the air in your house. If after cleaning your house and using your antihistamine you still have trouble, you might consider a rigorous allergy treatment like an allergy shot.
